You need to be on top of your game to roll with the punches and keep yourself in business. I don't believe in putting all of your eggs in 1 basket. This doesn't mean you have to work 5 businesses. It means you need to have steps in place so that if something fails or your account is shut down that you have other options. It means constantly adding to your business to keep up with the changes.


Are you building a business for the long haul? Or, are you trying to get rich quick? I can tell you that get rich quick schemes do not work. You have to put a lot of time and effort into building a business for it to be successful. It takes a lot of effort to outrank the thousands of other DS Reps you are competing against.


What are you doing to make yourself different? How do you build a business better than other Direct Sales Reps? The secret is you brand yourself and you have more links to your website than they do. You should never use the website link the company gave you. Guess who ranks for that link? The company, not you. You need your own website to brand yourself. And guess what? When I need Younique, I will remember that girl with the catchy website name like luvmyeyes. And, if you are promoting yourself correctly, I will have liked your Facebook business page and can easily find it when I am ready to purchase.


Registering your website and filling out your Google My Business page is a prerequisite for website owners this year. Telling Google everything you need to tell them using the channels they provide is a first prudent step for any business.

Google My Business Listing is FREE and Assists in Local Rankings

If you haven’t already, then go ahead and create your free Google My Business Listing. When you do, make sure that you provide as much detail as possible about your business. Furthermore, find ways to get reviews from your business customers / clients.


Rank for your company name. Picking a unique brand name would go a long way in helping. This is very easy to achieve with just on page optimization and a few incoming links and citations (sometimes, not even). This is unless you have a poor reputation online, or have a brand name that competes online with a better-known organisation with the same name in the same geographic region, which is far from ideal. If you have online business authority, you will rank in Google. If you don’t, you won’t and so will need to legitimately build some authority.


Rank for your service, in your area. Done with on-page optimization (geographic mentions in the title and in the text for instance). This is where my Online Vendor Shows fit in. Putting your ad in your State Event helps you to rank in your local area. I have been teaching this method since 2014. This is my own unique concept on Vendor Shows, no one else offers the service I do. This gets your business link on search engines and social media for .17 cents a day and is for building your brand, your online social presence and getting your name out there. So, how many times does Google need to find your business link to rank you higher than other reps? It all depends on the rank of the website you advertise on. Facebook is high ranking, so your business page raises your rank more than a regular website. Advertising on matching content websites raises your rank, meaning advertising on a direct sales website will raise you more than advertising on a fishing website. I suggest starting with a goal of getting your business listed on 10 different websites. This is more than most DS Reps will do so it is a great start to building your online business. Think about it like this: 50% of DS Reps won't do anything at all. 20% will post on Facebook only. 20% will post on Social Media sites only. 5% will start their own website or blog. The top 5% will post on social media, their own website, classified ads sites and any matching content website they can find to build their business. Are they going to pay $5 a month to advertise their business and expect sales to come flying in? Of course not, building a business takes time and effort and if there was a magic sales website it would cost a lot more than $5 a month. They are going to take the leads they get and turn them into customers down the road. There are steps you have to take to build your business online. It does not happen overnight. It may be time-consuming, but it is worth it to have a successful home business. You can do it.


So, what does it cost to brand yourself? A domain name is $12 for 1 year. A webserver is $5 a month. Making a blog is free or you can make your domain redirect automatically to the company website.
